HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD
A meeting of the Helensville Town Board was held in ilih Board's office on Saturday, the 20th inst. Present : Messrs J. McLood (chairman), Hand Becroft, and H. W. Stringer (clerk). The following correspondence was dealt with : Mr E. J. VercoQ. wrote asking for information as to who pays for the extra distance on road for drain pipes. —Mr Vercoe was informed that the public have to connect to the main drain themselves. A letter was received from the Town Clerk, Eaetihi, asking the Board's view on a remit they proposed forwarding to the Municipal Association Conference as follows : " That the Government be respectfully urged to amend a portion of clause 22 of the Town Board Ant 1908, in the direction of permitting members of the Town Boards to participate in any contract or work to be done, or to supply goods to the Board if the payment of any such contract, work, or supply does not exceed £5 for any on econtract, work, or supply, or £10 altogether in one year." —The Board replied that they )could not see th^Li way to support the remit. A circular was received from the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board stating the Helensville contribution for thw eusuing year to be £5u 12s 1 Id. —The Cleric wis in structed to p.vy six months ou account. The District Healt.li Officer wrote forwarding copy of model by-laws, and suggPs'ting model by-laws in drainage and plumbing.—The Clerk was instructed to forward these bylaws to Mr Ziman, the Board's solicitor, who is preparing a new set of by laws for the Helensville Town District. The Healch Officer also wrote re thf drainage of the three hotels.— It is the Board's intention to carry out' these instructions. Mr W. Downer wrote offering to supply the Board with a quantity of earth from his allotment in Mill Street for the purpose of forming a footpath, free of charge. —This offer was accepted with thanks.
A letter was received from Mr A. P. Grevllle, Chairman of the Royal Commission on gnm lands, tendering the best thanks of the Commission for the use of the Board's office for theii meeting at Helensville, held on the 11 tb inst.
A.v application from Mr Tucker for permission to erect a billiara saloon at' the back of his shop. in ■Commercial Road, was granted, the license fee being £2.
