MAKARAU
Our Own Coirespondent)
Owing to the wet weather and the bad state in which, the roads are at present, it lias been decided to abandon the Saturday evening dances until September. These dances have been very popular, and have been the means of paying off the greater part of the debt on the Hall piano. A number of young people seemed to break loose on account of the long evenings and lack of amusement, consequently about twenty or more of them "surprised" Mr and Mrs Geraghty last Tuesday evening. All the ladies Avere laden with baskets containing- dainties for supper. In a very short time a room was cleared, and a very pleasant evening was spent in dancing, sieging, and games. In fact, everyone had such ,a good time that they determined to " surprise" soveral of the settlers during the winter months. Mr and Mrs G-eraghty did much to help in the success of the eveniug, and were declared to be " Jolly Good Fellows."
