SUBURBS V. HELENSVILLE

The second Cup match of the second round was played on Saturday, 20th inst. at the Helensville Show Grounds. Notwithstanding the rain, which had fallen on the previous night and during the day, the ground was in good order. The wind was west south west, being nearly up and down the paddock. " Suburbs kicked off, and after some long kicking the ball found the line at mid-way, a scrum following, with no result, but the ball was for some considerable time in Suburb's territory Helensville got a free for a breach, and shortly afterwards Suburbs also got a free, Shanks getting away with the ball, but was collared by V. McLeod. A scrum followed. Helensville again got a free, and Suburbs forced. Helensville then got a try, but did not register the major points. Helensville ... ... 3 Suburbs ... ... 0 Helensville again got a free kick, the ball finding the line. Shortly after this C. McLeod got the ball and got well into the Helensville line, but was collared by V. McLeod. The whistle then sounded for change. Helensville ... ... 3 Suburbs ... ... 0 For some time after the kick-off a lot of even play followed. Suburbs got a free and rushed the ball into Helensville territory. C. McLeod got the ball and scored a try for Suburbs, but failed to get the bigger score. Shanks got well away with the ball into Helensville line, but was collared by V. McLeod. For an infringement Suburbs got a free, and for a time the ball was well in the Helensvile territory, till V. McLeod got the ball and Helensville rushed Suburbs. Suburbs got a free, and this changed the position, and the scrums were again in Helensville ground; Hart got a mark and a shot at goal followed, but with no result. Suburbs again got a free, and I had another shot at goal, but again failed to register. Helensville got a mark. C. McLeod got the ball from the kick, rushed through Helensville territory, and secured a try, but did not succeed in the goal.
