TE PUA PUBLIC SCHOOL
A LAii«E and influential meeting was held on the 16th last., in the Te Pua Public School, to consider the pros posal of the Auckland Education Board to close this school. .
The following gentlemeD were appointed delegates to the Board : Messrs Barnes and Jas. Newman (both members of the School Committee), with the power to add Mr James McLeod (J.P., Chairman of Helensville Town Board), and a member of the Waitemata County Council for the Maeratahi Riding, iri which riding school is situated. The delegates will point out to the Board the gross injustice done to the district if this proposal is carried out. There are a number of small children living on the outskirts of the district who would be unable to get any schooling if this school were closed, tlie distance to Helensville being too
great
A petition is being prepared and doubtless will be signed by the whole of the population of ,Te Pua. <JA'.
We understand that there are about 50 children attending the school, and as new settlers are continually coming into the district, no doubt there will soon be a considerable increase. This school, which was established some 20 years ago, is without a teacher's house, consequently the teacher .has to live in Helensville, and we fail to understand why the Board has not yet built a residency. We know of many schools in the Auckland £duca-» tional District which have much smaller attendances and yet have a teacher's house. The distance from the Te Pua school to Helensville school is a good two miles, ana teachers have to walk it in all
weathers
