HELENSVILLE v WAIMAUKU
THE first game of the second round of the Cup matches took place on Saturday, 3rd inst, at the Helensville Show Ground, the game being Helensville v Waimauku. As Waimauku was leading for the Cup, great interest was taken in the game The play was very even, and a hardly contested game was the result. The ground was good, but the wind being in the south-west the play was principally on the road side of the paddock. At the kick off Waimauku rushed the ball into Helensville's territory, but J. Masters got a mark and relieved the pressure. A scrum followed. After some neutral play, the ball was again carried into the Helensville quarter, and for an infringement Waimauku was given a free kick, and Helenville forced. At the kick at 25 Taylor got the ball, but it was brought back and scrummed. Helensville got " a free kick, and V. McLeod found the line. ■ Waimauku then came with a rush, but Helensville's full-back, Jack Masters, saved. A free was given Waimauku for off-side play. After some even play and long kicks by both sides, White found the line at centre. Shortly after the first change "V. McLeod got a free for a mark, and the ball again found the line at the centre. After some smart passing between the Reds, Fletcher got in and secured a try, but owing to the strength and direction of the- wind it was impossible to convert. At the kick the ball went out of bounds. A scrum followed. After some even play, a Waimauku man being an offender, Helensville got a free which carried the ball into the Waimauku territory. Then followed a series of scrums till the whistle sounded for I half time. Waimauku ... ... 3 Helensville ... ... 0 Shortly after the commencement of the third spell for a breach Helensville I got a! free, but without result. Then followed a long spell of even play, and nothing of any importance took plrce till V. McLeod got away with the ball from half-way, and passed to Horace Williams, who 4 drew first blood for Helensville. Waimauku ... .... 3 Helensville ... ... 3 At the change Waimaukn obtained a free on account of an infringement, but failed to score. Helensville forced, and carried the game into the Waimauku territory, where numerous scrums followed till the sounding of the whistle, a drawn game being the result. Waimauku ... ... 3 Helensville ... ... 3
