THE MAORI KING FARCE
TOUCHING THAT WAITANGI
TREATY
Mr H. C.Lambert, of the Colonial Office presented the Maori deputation to the •'Great White Chief" at Buckingtain Palace on June 5. When the chiefs were ushered into the presence chamber they approached the Throne, cast their robes at the King's feet, and knelt to pay homage. The King cordially welcomed them, and in doing so recalled his visit to New Zealand. Te Rata Mahuta presented a letter expressing the Maoris' loyalty to the Crown. The King and Queen conversed with the visitors and hoped that their visit would be both enjoyable and beneficial.
The newspapers announce that the visit was purely a ceremonial one, dictated by no political considerations.
The chiefs are deeply gratified with Hie Majesty's cordiality.
