WAITEMATA COUNTY BRIDGES

HOW THINGS GET MIXED

AT the meeting of the Waitemata County Council, held on Wednesday of last week, when there were present : Messrs F. Dye (chairman), J. McLeod, V. KerrTaylor, W. Poynton, W. McCathie, M. Lang, J. O'Neill, W. Greenwood and H. Day; the engineer (Mr G. A. Jackson) reported that the only new works that had been laid out during the month were the Tramway and Cemetery Roads at Swanson and the final road in the Oteha Block at Albany. The survey of the road approach to Mount Rex Wharf had also been completed. The new bridges that were in hand were all nearing completion, and he was unable to call for further tenders, not yet having received any plans back from the Public Works Department. The plan of the Helensville Bridge after^ being held in the Department's office for nearly two months, had been returned with a request that was of no use whatever, and with an intimation that the plan must be submitted to the Marine Department. This had been done. The plans of Ohirangi and Segrine Bridges, after a delay of three weeks, had been forwarded to Wellington. It is a rather significant fact," the report continued, " that four concrete bridges are about to be t? \r? veT different branches of the Manuk.au Harbour without any Departmental obstruction. Manukau County seems to be more favoured than Waitemata."
