Presented with £700.
REVEREND SECRETARY OF HORTICULTURISTS RETIRES FROM VICARAGE.
Nearly £700 has been presented to the Rev. W. Wilks, for twentyfive years secretary of the Royal Horticultural Society, by n<ay of a testimonial.
It is this rev. gentleman who evolved the "Shirley poppy," and his Fellows of the Royal Horticultural Society have marked their appreciation of his efforts on behalf of flower growers.
Mr. Wilks has just retired from the vicarage of Shirley, near Croydon, which he had occupied for thirty years.
It was after this church that he named the beautiful flower which is now grown wherever flowers are loved.
