I From Shepparton, 120 miles north- . north-east 'of Melbourne, comes a remarkable story of how a gold-bear-ing reef was located after having been revealed in a dream. . John O'Connell and William Kitto arrived in the township with specimens of quartz which they reported having obtained 18 miles away. O'Connell . was only recently, discharged after six months' stay from the Mooroopna Hospital, where he underwent three operations. While in hospital he dreamt that he had discovered gold at a certain spot in the neighbourhood of Caniambo. The dream was repeated five times. When John O'Connell recovered he went with Kitto, whose acquaintance he had made in hospital, to the place indicated, and found the reef. The specimens brought back are said to be rich ones, but it is not yet known how far the reef extends Several leaders" (veins of ore which the miner follows when working an irregular deposit) were worked in the district about 30 years ago, but the reef was missed.
