Married by Force.

One morning, some few years since, a wedding parly presented themselves at the Ma iris of Tssondon, in France, and in due course the Mayor asked the bridegroom whether he "would take this woman to be his wife." He received the surprising reply : "No, my first marriage was not sufficiently happy to warrant a second." "Come, come," cried the astounded official, "you should have thought of that before you came here. You must have known what you were doing." But the man only shook his head, and with the remark, "It's never too late to avoid being a fool," took to his heels, followed by the rest of the party in hot pursuit. The chase was hot, but brief ; the quarry was soon captured, and led back in triumph to the Mairie, where he was married out of hand.
