Exit from New Zealand's Parliament after a chequered career—Labour member, Liberal Minister, and Independent or Reformer—the Hon. J. A. Millar. The announcement that Mr Millar does not intend contesting the Dunedin West seat at the general election has not come as a surprise ; it has been recognised for some time that Mr Millar intended giving politics best. A ding-dong go is expected between Mr Downie Stewart (Mayor of Dunedin) and Mr H. D. Redford, who are spoken of as candidates for Dunedin West- —" Spectator." ;'
Mr W. Beloher, the general secretary of the Seamen's Union, is mentioned as a candidate for Dunedin North, at present represented by Mi* G. M. Thompson- " Bill" is a character, and one of Dnnedin's assets. He stood for the Mayoralty last year, and held only one meeting, the night before the poll. It was an entertainment, with a short characteristic speech by the way, and he polled very well. If "Bill" gets into Parliament he'll be the joy of the reporters, for he'll provide copy every time he rises.
