THE Kaipara AND Maitemata ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPTA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE." HELENSVILLE, FRIDAY, APRIL, 10. 1914. BUMPING AND PLANNING

Notwithstanding the fact that a number of public men and old residents are trying their best to look after the welfare of Helensville, there is a certain amount of snail-like progress prevailing. Our city fathers appear to be wrapped-up in the business affairs of every-day life, and this ECHO would like to see some more of the l% old go" displayed for the advancement and well-being of the place. * Yes, it would like to see some of the younger blood, and then some of the new blood scattered about, making a try at improving the surroundings of this "fine" township, capitally situated and endowered by nature with many advantageous features for the making of a beautiful and envious township that many a larger city would be jealous of. Starting with a thousand or two of level, excellent country, from the railway, and gradually rising to some hundreds of feet, with respectable residences, planned and clean streets —the levels of which were judiciously defined before it was too late —and being j situate within forty miles of Auckland, we have just cause to urge a Ppi.JCY of Beautifying : To make the place attractive for J the comfort of those at present I domiciled therein, and the huni dreds and thousands coining and to come from all parts to our wonderful and curative Hot

Springs, which those of Helensville will, in the near future, play second fiddle to n°ne. We have a huge asset here for all time, therefore it behoves one and all to guard our interests, and let the people outside our domain see that those within are not so sleepy as history has bestowed upon them. Helensville requires a " Beautifying Association," and with such an object in view, the ECHO hopes, ere the springtime comes, to assist in promoting such. More anon.
