Moustaches Doomed.
DANGER ENGAGED COUPLES MUST AVOID. The French scientist. Dr. Pierre ' Jacques, has made researches as to the habits of various bacilli. His family is by no means free from the I irritating effects of scientific investigation. The doctor's daughter recently became affianced to a young oflicer, who had a fine military moustache. .Following a custom which even scientists admit is prevalent as between engaged couples, .kisses were' interchanged between the young pair when opportunities occurred. Alter one such opportunity the doctor insisted upon removing the .bacilli from his daughter's lips and treated them with a reacting agent; he found 1000 bacilli per cubic millimetre of the solution. This fact caused the doctor to doubt whether he should allow the engagement of his daughter to continue. The fiance recently had the misfortune to burn one side of his moustache through cigarette smoking, and was obliged to have it completely shaved off. Dr. Jacques seized the occasion to make a further investigation, and found that after the removal of the fiance's moustache the number of bacilli was reduced to less than a tenth of the former number.
