HELENSVILLE A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
A general committee meeting of the above was held in the Library on Fridayevening, Mr Jas. McLeod (President) in the. chair; also present,MessrsH. Aitkenhead, T. Davison, W. Nichols, Jas Newman, J. B. Jordan, jnr., C. H. Spinley, W. J. Ellett, J. Beynard, J. A. Wilson, M. Hafford, N. W. Rimmer and J. C. Rimmer.
A lot of correspondence was dealt with including the following : —
On the question of holding an Art Union the Hon. Minister for Internal Affairs referred the Society to section 43 of the Gaming Act. —The Secretary explained that the section mentioned gave the Society power to raffle show exhibits free from the restrictions contained in the Act/ —It was decided to keep the matter in mind for next Show.
Millar's West Australian Hardwoods Co. wrote quoting prices for timber for the erection of cattle pens, which they understood the Society had in view.
The Department of Agriculture forwarded particulars of what was being done in connection with New Zealand's representation at the Panama exhibition of 1915. .■ '<4^\ > Mr D. Sands wrote in supporfc'^^S's protest in ■ regard to his yearling foal being awarded a championship which was afterwards taken away and given to another horse. —The Secretary said he had explained to Mr Sands that his horse was entered in a class not eligible for a championship.—The Stewards. explained that a ribbon had been given to Mr Sands' horse under the impression that it was the only young entire entered, but when it was discovered that Davison Bros, had a young entire at the Show the two horses were brought before the Judge who awarded the ribbon to Davisons' horse.—lt was decided that Mr Sands* protest could not be sustained, but that his deposit be refunded.
Proposed Sunday Train.
Correspondence from Dargaville Chamber of Commerce on the Sunday Train question, as to when the petitions were to be presented, was referred to the Secretary to reply that the signatures were desired as early as possible in view of the Minister's approaching visit to the district. It was further decided that Mr R. Nicholls' offer to get signatures at Parakai be accepted, also that Mr J. Reynard be appointed to get the petition signed at Te Pua and Mr Ellett and the Secretary for Helensville. '
Board oe Agriculture,
The Chairman reported having, attended the Conference of A. and P. Association delegates at Auckland to select a representative for the Board of Agriculture, which had resulted in the selection of Mr Reynolds. He also mentioned that he had move,d a resolution, which was adopted, recommending the Government to have such Board elected in future in the same way Education Boards were elected. .He further moved that Representations be made for Auckland district to have another member (the Government having power to add four members to the Board) showing that the population was largely increasing, whereas the South Island was decreasing. This motion, however, was not proceeded with. —On the motion of Messrs R. Nicholls and Spinley a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Chairman for his services as delegate on behalf of the Society. A spirited discussion took place in- regard to whether an exhibitor with two entries in a class, and no other competitor* should be entitled to full prize money or only half. Exentually it was decided to adhere to the Regulations for the recent show and consider amending the rules Sfetlg g Payment °fprizes at the annuaL
Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee dealt with a number of matters, among which was the arranging of Bank over-draft to meet Present liabilities. A discussion took Place as to disposing of some of the land so as to be m a position to carry out improvements by way of cattle pens and? the erection of a hall, and it was eventul ally decided to have a special Executive sss^sr" the ™* °»
