On Wednesday, March 18, at our weekly Westfield fat stock market, our supply of beef numbered 391 head. There was only a moderate demand, and generally values suffered a further drop of 10s per head ; choice ox sold to £1 Bs, prime £1 5s 6d to £1 7s, cows and heifers, £1 Is to £1 4s ; steers ranged in price from £7 10s to £13 ; cows and heifers, £4 to £9 ss. Calves came forward in increased numbers, including a large number of heavy suckers. Prices for these were easier. Choice medium suckers sold at late rates; runners, to £5 16s ; heavy suckers, £2 10s to £3 10s medium suckers, £1 15s to £2 8s; lighter, £1 6s to £1 13s ; small and fresh dropped, 6s to 18s ; weedy, 3s (87 sold). Fat sheep continue to come forward in large numbers, 2206 being soldi really prime mutton sold without alteration from last week ; unfinished, 14s 6d to 16s 6d ; extra heavy prime ewes, 18s ; good, 14s to 17s : others, 10s to 13s 6d. The 561 lambs yarded met with a brisk sale ; heavy prime, 17s to 18s ; good, 14s to 16s 6d ; lighter, 12s to 13s 6d ; unfinished, 9s to 11s 6d. Pigs penned in large numbers ; baconers and porkers sold at late quotation, other classes, on account of the number yarded, were considerably easier. Heavy baconers, £2 18s to £3 8s; lighter, £2 11s to £2 16s largs porkers, £2 5s to £2 10s ; lighter, £1 16s to £2 4s ; small, £1 5s to £1 13s ; small stores, 18s to £1 4s ; weaners, 6s to 11s (201 sold).

At Westfield Yards on Wednesdoy, fat cattle were yarded in average numbers, and sold at last week's quotations, the market having a firmer tone. Best oxen sold to 29s per 1001b ; others, 25s to 28s ; cows and heifers, 24s to 28s. Steers sold at from £7 to £12 17s 6d; cows and heifers, £4 15s to £8 ss. Vealers were yarded in extra large numbers and sold at lower rates than last week's quotations. Heavy vealers sold at from £3 18s to £4 14s; medium weights, £3 to £3 15s ; lighter, £2 to £2 18s ; smaller 20s to 39s others and fresh dropped, 3s to 18s. Sheep were penned in average numbers, and showed no improvement in price. Best wethers sold at from 19s 9d to £1 3s 9d ; others, 15s to 19s 6d ; heavy ewes, 17s 3d to 19s ; best, 13s to 16s 9d ; others, 10s 6d to 13s. Pigs came forward in less supply than usual and sold at late rates. Baconers, £3 10s to £4 Is ; large porkers, £2 5s to £2 18s ; porkers, £1 8s to £1 17s 6d ; slips, £1 to £1 3s ; weaners, 10s to 14s.
