Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report :— On Wednesday, February 25, at our weekly Westfield fat stock market, we penned beef to the number of 361 head. There was an improved demand and values advanced from 10s to 15s per head. Choice ox ■ sold to LI 10s 6d ; prime, Ll 8s 6d to LI 10s ; cows and heifers, Ll 2s to Ll 6s ; steers ranged in price from L8 to Ll3 7s 6d ; cows and heifers, L 4 10s to LlO 7s 6d. There was a large yarding of calves, the greater number being heavy suckers. All sorts were lower in price, heavy calves suffering most. Runners sold to L6 ; heavy suckers. L 2 10s to L3 5s : rougher sorts, L2 to L2 8s ; medium suckers, Ll 8s to Ll 16s ; lighter, 18s to Ll 6s ; small and fresh dropped, 6s to 15s ; weedy, 3s—(101 sold). Sheep again came forward in large numbers and met with a firm sale, Last week's rates were easily sustained, and in many cases exceeded. Extra heavy prime wethers, Ll 3s 6d to Ll 5s 3d ; heavy prime Ll Is 6d to Ll 352; medium to heavy, 18s 6d to Ll Is ; light and unfinished, 15s to 17s 9d; extra heavy prime ewes, 19s 6d to Ll 2s 3d : good, 16s to 18s 6d : others, 11s to 14s 6d.—(2228 sold). Pigs came forward in average numbers and sold readily at late rates. Heavy baconers brought from L 3 ss*to L 3 11s ; medium, L 2 15s to L3 2s ; large porkers, L2ss to L 2 12s ; lighter, Ll 16s to L2 3s ; small, Ll 10s to Ll 15s ; weaners, 13s to 14s 6d.—(169 sold).
