. It lias been announced that Mr F. Beechy, of Kaitieke, will, contest the Waimarino seat at the general election against Mr E. W. Smith, as a Government supporter.

Hon I). Buddo, for Kcaiapoi, who has been some weeks in Australia, joined the steamer at Melbourne a few days ago, and left on atrip to England. He will return to. New Zealand about the beginning of next session.

MrM. W. Welch, farmer ofTaita, has announced that lie has definitely decided to stand for the Hutt se.it at the next election, Mr Welch is well known in the disirict, is a member of several local bodies, and is chairman of the Hutt County Council. He is a supporter of the present Government.

In an interview the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher described as utter nonsense a report that he will be a candidate for Wellington Central at the general election. He said hehad no intention whatever of seeking a new seat.

Mr R. L. Someis, Mayor of T© Aroha, (late of Terminus Hotel, Helensville), has received a numerously signed petition to contest the Thames seat in the Liberal interest. His reply will be given in due course.

The Premier's next visit to Auckland will be about the end of this month or the beginning of April, when he will go north to the Bay of Islands and open a new section of railway. He may also turn the first sod of thre line to connect Whangarei with the North Auckland Trunk railway on the same trip.

The supporters of Mr J. G, Coates, M.P. for Kaipara, have decided to ask their representative to attend a combined meeting of his comaMttee at an early date in order to make arrangements for a cittiipaign. A meeting of supporters of the Opposition party was held at Dargaville on Saturday night, when a branch of the Liberal and La. bom' Federation was formed, with Mr T. Kennedy as president. Mr R. Hoe of TTel^nsvilln, addressed tlio meeting, and was unanimously selectet, as the "Liberal and Laboui" candidate fo the Kaipara seat.
