On Thursday, February 5, at Westfield, there was a good demand for dairy cows at profit. Best brought from L 8 15s to LlO 10s, others L 6 10s to L 8 ss, aged L 5 to L 6 ; springing heifers, L 5 5s to L 9 15s ; empty cows, L 2 10s to L 4 10s ; 18-month, heifers, L 3 to L 4 Is ; calves, LI 5s to Ll 15s.
At Westfield Yards, on Wednesday, fat cattle came forward in average numbers, mostly of excellent quality, and prices were a shade easier for extra heavy weights than the previous week. Best oxen sold to 30s 6d per 1001b, others 26s to 29s ; cows and heifers, 24s to 275. Steers sold at from L 7 2s 6d to Ll2 7s 6d; cows and heifers, L 4 17s 6d to L 9 2s 6d. A draft of 35 small. steers, extra well fatted, from Mr F. Manning, jun., Monmou-. kai, averaged Lll 12s 6d. Veal calves came forward in usual numbers and sold well. Extra heavy weights sold at from L 4 10s to L 5 7s ; heavy weights, L 3 5s to L44s ; medium do., L 2 10s to L 3 ; lighter sorts, Ll 8s to L 2 5s : smaller, 15s to 25s small and fresh-dropped, 3s to 12s, Sheep were penned in average number and sold at last week's rates, best wethers selling at from Ll Is to Ll 8s 9d, others 17s 6d to 20s 3d ; heavy ewes, 15s 6d to 19s 9d, others 13s 3d to 15s 3d. Lambs were in full supply, and sold at late rates Best quality, 16s 6d to 19s 9d, others 11s 6d to 16s 3d'; stores, 8s to 10s 9d.
Pigs were penned in good uumbers and sold at higher rates. Baconers, L 3 to L 3 15s ; large porkers, L 2 10s to L3ls • porkers, LI 10s to L 2 5s ; slips, 19 a to £1 5s ; weaners, 12s 6d to 17s 6d.
