THE 'FRISCO EXHIBITION.
We congratulate the Grovernrnent on having done the right thing. Having complimented the Agricultural Depart ment on the splendidly successful manner in which it had set forth the wealth of the Dominion's agricultural powers, the Piime Minister has determined that .the same department shall reppat the lesson for the benefit 'of the millions of American citiz-ns who are to be induced to take these products at satisfactory prices in the years to come. Parliament voted no subsidy. But that only makes the attitude of the government all the more praiseworthy for it .shows that the men at the head of affairs understand the prime need for gttting wider markets for our primary products. Hence we trust tho response to the Prime Mm. ister's invitation to all interested who have the power of compliance will be large and comprehensive in kind beyond the dreams of the most optimistic. Mr Massey has promised not only that the exhibition of these consignments shall be as adequate as mon^y can make it, but, that the department will undertake to dispose., of them to the best advantage. It is perhaps too much to expect , that this will be done at a profit to the exhibitors. But that it will reduce much the cost to them of an advertisement by which they are sure to profit for a series of prosperous years may be taken for granted. We venture to suggest to the Prime Minister that lie should get up a similar showing for the manufacturing industries of the country, that he should or-> ganise an exhibit showing the vast water powers of the Dominion and the great approaching success of the first instalment Lake Coleridge: that he should have a good perseutipent of the mining wealth of this country under the auspices of.the mining department which knows its business and ought to be encouraged thus to do it effectively. Thus will capital in the hands of men of - experience be guided from America to our mining developments and our manufacturing possibilities rendered so superior by the cheapness of our water-supplied powers A comprehensive exhibition of that kind will be the turning point in the history of New Zealand as Ja great nation.--Verb. Sat. Sap.
