Messrs Alfred Buekland and Sons report :— On Wednesday, January 28, at oui weekiy Westfield fat stock market, we penned beef to the number of 389 head. There was a steady demand throughout, last week's value being sustained Choice ox to Ll 9s, prime Ll 7s to Ll Bs, cows and heifers Ll to Ll ss. Steers ranged in price from L 7 17s Gd to Ll2 2s 6d, cows and heifers L 4 to L 9 ss. Sixty nice quality steers from Mr A. Muir, jut\r., Matahia property, averaged LlO 4s, and 17 well-finished bullocks frori. Messrs. W. R. and G. Coxhead, Wi- atakaruru, averaged Ll I4s 6d. Fat and young calves in full numbers. Heavy vealers were low in price. Aledium weights met with a fair sale. Heavy suckers L 2 5s to L 3 4s, medium Ll 8s to L 2 2s, lighter 16s to Ll Bs, small and fresh dropped 6s to 15s, weedy 3s (119 sold). The sheep pens were moderately filled with a nice class of mutton. There was an improved demand, prime sheep being better woith by Is 6d to 2s per head. Extra heavy prime wethers Ll 8s to Ll 4s, heavy prime Li Is to Ll 2s Gd, medium to heavy 17s 9d to 19s 9.d. light and unfinished lqs to lfis Qd, best ewes 17s to 19s, good 15s to 16s Od, others 10s to 14s (1087 sold) Tlih 008 la nibs were insuffic:ent foi I requirements, and sold nt advancuHl figures, 13es-t he-ivy made from 16s Ito 18s, good 14s to U^y.l, light 1' s lo I 113s, poor 7s to 10a 7d.
