Mi- F. Elvin was entertained at a Smoke Concert in the Hall on Friday evening last. A very pleasant lime was spent, and with songs, recitations etc, the. hours passed quickly by till midnight.
Mr Marks, on behalf.'of' the residents and friends of Mr Elviu, presented.him with rt • handsome travelling bag, and a collection of pipes, :He said that Mr Elvin had always been among the first to help the" district along. He had served on the School Committee, on and off, for a number of years," and ho was the first to agitate for a Public Hall ; and over coming many difficulties, had been successful' in getting it. The Hall was now in* a flourishing condition, and since, it was built some six or seven, yeftrs, age, Mr Elvin had served 6n .thtt committee ■as chairman, or member. When 'was understood that he would riot stand for're-election, his friends felt that they'could not let him.go'■without some" expression of their appreciation of what he "had done. • .'...'..'
Mr Elvin feelingly, replied.' He said that their k.hjdness: came as » great- surf rise and'pleasure which he would not soon . forgbt. Wlrttt little, he had done bad,; always "-J bopn a pleasure to himself-; but lately, witli advancing years, he was begiuing to find it a trouble to attend meetings, and etc.,. and therefore he had decided to pass his share of .tho management over to so.moono younger than himself. He was sure that'"the new Committee would be.just as successful as the old one had been..
