OUR RAILWAYS.
The new manager \as- been asked as his predecessor v^yas before him, many times, to 'speed up" the.exj)ress trains wii^aout the number of stopping plat-os, and he has replied much as theY did—that it is a difficult proceeding. But he gives hope that he may yet devise some method of successful speeding up. It is too soon to make up our minds of the wisdom or otherwise* of his appointment. But there is this to be said in his favour. He is the only traffic m.ai who has ever managed the lines. The others were engineers. "Hence the great immunity from accidents —and the excellent maintenance. But perhaps traffic interests may have suffered. We shall see presently.
