The road formation from Helens-ville-Ohirangi road to the headworks of the water supply on Mangakuia creek is now completed, and the laying of water mains will be resumed this week. It is expected to have the water supply available in about three months' time.
Notice is given in the Gazette that the sum of £4000 has been voted by Parliament for distribution to public libraries. The distribution will take place on February 9,1914, and no claim will be entitled to consideration that shall not have been sent in due form and received by the Secretary for Education, Wellington, on or before January 26, 19147

A second offender for drunkenness at Taihape last week was unfortunate ow^ ing to his failure to recognise faces once seen. The police report was that defendant had been in the habit of c;xclg-rn<r from people thus making himself a nuisance. A special series of postage stamps has been issued to Commemorate the Auckland Industrial Exhibition. The series consists of ordinary stamps of the denominations of An., Id., 3d., and 6d., over -printed "Auckland Exhibition,
•913". The stamps cau be purchased only at the Exhibition, and not more than o.s worth will be sold at ono time. The Commonwealth,-of Australia has agraed.to recognise these over-printed stamps as valid for postage for three months- from the Ist December. The stamps ivili not be valid for postago to other places beyond Now Zealaud.
"It is particularly unfortunate"(says tho "Trade Review") "that at the beginning of what promised to bo one of the best export season's experienced by the Dominion, the position should be marred by a grave and senseless strike of waterside workers.
