TOWN BOARD.

" ' '"' The Minister for Eailways advised the Board that he would again con~ sider the matter of Newmarket being made a stopping^place for the Main trunk express service. Newmarket Borough Council notified -"' that it had been decided to arrange a deputation to "see a Government Minister in Auckland about the train service. \ . ■ Helbnsvii-le" South Ckossing. The Piemier (Hon. F. W. Massey) advised that he had communicated the Board's representations in regard to an overhead crossing at Helenavilie South, to the Minister for Eailways, . and he would later advise what decision had been arrived at. The Pipe Track. Mr Stanton, solicitor, wrote to the effect that he,understood an arrange* * mant had been made with the Board by Mr Jno. Hand as to pipe line across his property, and it was now desired to have the matter fixed up.— Referred to Bpard.s solicitor. Construction of Dam. The Engineer (Mr Munro Wilson) reported that about 250 cubic yards of shingle and 100 yds of sand would be required for the construction of the dam for waterworks purposes. Messrs Sandin and McLeod had offered to deliver same at 9s a cubic yard. Government Grants. The Chairman rsported in reference to waiting on the Minister for Public Works about the grant for renewing of Jtlelensville Swing Bridge. He explained the condition the bridge was in and that to repair same to carry on for 3 or 4 years would be just a waste of money • He had reports from two engineers to show the bridge was dangerous and.should be leplaced. When in Wellington he also Jnter--viewed the Minister for Tourist Resorts about the vote of £400 on the ■ Estimates, instead of the sum of £1400 - the Board had applied for. He had asked for a further sum of £400 to put up twelve private baths, and £200 for drainage purposes and putting down extra bores. . Messrs Coates, Bollard and Dickson had also promised to press upon the Minister the need for developing th« Springs. The Minister had replied saying he would consider the matter. The Public Works Minister had promised to put the full vote for the Swing Bridge on tha Supplementary Estimates. A motion was adopted, in endorsement of the Chairman's' action. Drainage Matters. ' - Mr Becroft refereed ta the alterations at the .Foresters' Hall being nearcompletion.. He had to finish within- v a certain time and he wishrd to have some intimation from the Board in regard to the drainage . connections. The Chairman said the Board had not yet made any decision as to drain-. age connections, and nobody could connect with the Board's drains as present. * Street Works. The Works Committee reported on ' various little jobs that had received * attention ; others would shortly be dealt with. - The balance sheets showed the Board s account with a debit of £252 16s and accounts for £28 12s 3d to • - pay ; the Water Supply was' £592 in arrears ; and Drainage 127 behind. .
