The N. Z. Railways advertise particulars of excursions to Auckland for the Exhibition, which commence on Monday next, the opening .day, 'I-he other night at a very late hour a local resident was awakened by some members of the household and inform* ed that a rather suspicious looking man had been trying various doors and windows, and was evidently bent on burglary. Am ing himself with a rather formidable baton the householder made his way outside, but quickly discovered the intruder to be a boarder. Subsequent admissions set out that the boarder had been late at work and explanations showed was frightened to pass in at the pioper door owing to the presence of a dog, which was a very recent arrival on the premises. Several of the inmates of the house got a bit of a scare as well as the boarder, but the dog wai probably as much scared as anybody. Mr G. M, Newton, barrister and solicitor, Victoria Aroade, Auckland, has an advertisement in this issue. Mr. G. Miller, who has been Mayor of Lyttelton on several occasipns will be the Government candidate lor the Lyttelton seat rendered'vac'ant by the death of Mr. G. 'Laureusoiu" The motion for the issue of the writ was moved in the House of Representatives by the Prime Minister on Tuesday.
