TOWN BOARD.
At Saturday's Town Board meeting there were present Comrs. Jas McLeod (chairman), A Becroft, Jas, Hand, J, A. Wilson and Jas. Stewaat. Train Service. Newmarket Borough Council asked the Board to co-operate in pressing upon the Railway Department the need for Newmarket being made a stopping piace for the Main trunk' express service. The Chairman and Mr Wilson spoke as to the need for the exprees trains stopping at Newmarket so as to connect with Kaipara trains, and on the Chairman's motion it was decided to givo the support as asked. Pipitiwai Road. ' Plans and specifications for reducing grade at Pipitiwai were before the Board, and it was decided that tenders be called for the work in conjunction with the Kaukapakapa riding ; it wf.s further agreed to arrange for a supply of scoria for same. Re.Water Mains. i The Waitemata County notified that its Engineer's report, which had been adopted, stated that the Town Board had placed an air valve at the intersection of a new road with the Mangakura road, which was an obstruction and should be removed ; and the Board should also be notified that they had fsiled to comply with the provisions of the law as no notice of intention to lay water pipes was given to the Council, and the Council would not be responsible for the cost of lowering water mains that may from time to time become necessary. Ranger. . The appointment of Jno. Sproston as Town Ranger was confirmed. —The Chairman said he would also get Mr Sproston appointed for Maureiahi riding,. Finance. The financial statement showed a debit of £257 on the Board's account; the drainage account had a debit of £65 6e, and the warer supply account was £216 in arrears. ' The Board's Enginesr (H. Munro Wilson) notified that the Chairman (Mr Jas. McLeod) had recommended the building of one large dam instead of two smaller ones at the headworks of the water supply, and he now thought this was the best 'course to pursue. The Chairman and Mr Becroft argued that it would be less costly and would provide much larger storage accomodation by building one dam. The Board members agreed to pay a visit of inspection. The Chairman mentioned that some months ago he deputationised the Minister for Railways on the question of getting an overhead bridge at Helensville South crossing. Since then tho Board had not received any reply. On the Chairman's motion it was decided to bring the matter to the notice of the Prime Minister and ask him to use his influence with the Minister for Railways in regard to the bridging of this dangerous crossing.
