Labor Day Holiday.

A. large holiday crowd assembled at the Hot Springs Domain on Monday, including a good contingent of visitors from Auckland and other Districts, in connection with the function of opening the greens for the season. The Helensville Bowling Club and the Domain Board jointly made the arrangements, the former body having the opening of the season in conjunction with the Board's opening of the bowling, tennis and croquet lawns. The Mayor and Mayoress of Auckland were expected to attend, but did not arrive. Apologies were received for the absence of Hon R. Heaton Rhodes, Hon W. Fraser, Hon P. M. B. Fisher. Hon A. T. Herdman, Mr J. G. Coates M.P, Mr J. S. Dickson, M.P., and others.

Mr Jas. McLeod (chairman of the Domain Board and president of the Helensville Bowling Club) in the course of a speech made reference to the great value of the Hot Springs and their curative properties, and that it was intended to make the Domain still more attractive by effecting further improvements. He mentioned that it was hoped to erect extra bath rooms shortly so as to cope with the increased patronage. In declaring the greens open he tendered a hearty welcome to the visitors and hoped they would all have an enjoyable day. On behalf of the visiting bowlers Mr J. (Jariaw made appropriate remarks, and the various games were then proceeded with.

The first " Kitty " was rolled along by Mrs J. A. Wilson and the bowlers then followed their favourite game with keen interest throughout the day. The croquet and tennis lawns also provided a good deal of enjoyment for enthusiastic followers of those games, and under the most favourable weather conditions the day's proceedings were of a most successful order.

The Domain grounds had a very pretty appearance, the well trimmed lawns and bright flowers being decidedly attractive. In addition to taking part and watching the various athletic games various small picnic parties found ample time to enjoy themselves with other forms of amusement. Tennis and Bowls were continued until about 6 o'clock, everybody having an enjoyable time, and the function being a great success. On behalf of the visitors Mr Michells returned thanks for the manner in which they had been entertained, and a start was afterwards made for the railway station.

About 150 people boarded the last train for Auckland, which had been delayed two hours later than usual.
