Lawn Tennis.
Despite the unfavourable weather tennis players showed a good deal of interest in the opening of the season at the Helen sville courts last Thursday. There was a very go^d attendance of members, but the squally weather made matters somewhat uncomfortable. Mr J. A. Wilson, who declared the courts open for play, made congratulatory remarks on the successful working of the club during the past season (the club's first year) and expressed a hope that similar success would be met with this year. The ladies had prepared afternoon tea, and although the wind blew the crockery about and upset things generally and the showers were somewhat annoying, the tea was duly enjoyed. The courts were occupied throughout the afternoon, except for weather interruptions, and the opening day was therefore quite successful though not so enjoyable as would have been the case under more suitable climatic conditions. A friendly match is to take place on Thursday between teams representing Mr W. Cullens' court and the local club.
