Messia Alfred Buckland and Sons report:— At our weekly, Westfield fat stock market on Wednesday, October 8, our supply of beef numbered 296 head. There was only a limited demand, and in many cases prices were easier. Choice ox to Ll 11s ; prime. LI 7s to LI 9s; cows and heifers, Ll 3s to Ll 7s. Steers ranged in price from L 8 to Lls 17s 6d. The latter piice was obtained for a bullock bred and fattened by Mr Fred Lawson, of Wdiramarame, and was purchased by Messrs E.. and W. Hellaby, Ltd, Cows and heifers, L 4 10s to L 9 17s 6d. Fat and young calves came forward in large numbers, and sold without alteration from last report. Runners, Lo Is to !L5 19s ; heavy suckers, L 3 !0s to L 4 10s ; medium, L 2 7s to L 3 8s ; light, Ll 6s to L 2 5s ; small and fresh dropped, 9s to Ll 4s; weedy, 3s to 6s (115 sold). There was a heavy yarding oi sheep. The demand was sluggish, and values suffered a further drop. Extra heavy prime woolly wethers. Ll 10s to Ll 12s 3d ; heavy prime, Ll 6s to Ll 8s 9d ; medium to heavy, Ll 3s 6d to Ll 5s 6d ; light and unfinished, 18s 6d to Ll 2s 6d ; extra heavy prime ewes, Ll 6s to Ll 8s ; good, Ll 2s 6d to Ll 4s 6d ; others, 14s to Ll Is ; extra heavy shorn wethers, Ll 4s to Ll 6s ; heavy, 19s to Ll 2s 6d ; others, 16s to 18s ; woolly hoggets, 18s to Ll 6s (2274 sold). Spring lambs were penned in excess of requirements, and consequently values were considerably easier. Best brought from 16s to 18s 6d ; good, 13s to 15s; smaller 10s 6d to 12s 6d light, 7s to 8s 9d (241 sold).
There was a large yarding of pigs, prices remaining firm. Heavy baconL 4 to L 4 10s ; light, Lo lOs to L 3 19s; porkers, large, L 2 12s to L 3 ; smaller. Ll ißs to L2Bs ; light, Ll 8s to Ll 12s ; slips, Ll to Ll 8s ; weaners, 16s to 19s ; suckers, 15s (223 penned).
