THE TOWN BAND.
The efforts now being made to get the Town Band fully equipped and efficient are deserving of the hearty support of all townspeople. A good brass band is a valuable asset to any district, as it provides a good deal of enjoyment for the public. We understand there are now 14 playing members in training under their special instructor, and that good progress is being recorded. The members will have to dive into their pockets a good deal to cope with the expense of undergoing a special course of training, and they consider the public should help in this matter, also in the purchase of instruments. Providing the Band's property (instruments publicly subscribed for) is vested in Trustees, there need be no fear as to the donations being spent on other than safe lines. It may be to the Band's advantage at this juncture to explain that the instruments purchased by donations belong to the Band and not to any individual player. The subscription lists now being circulated are for the dual purpose of assisting to pay for professional instruction and purchase of more instruments. As the whole community is more or less interested in the welfare of this organisation the Town Board may reasonably consider the advisabity of making a substantial donation to the funds.
