Mrs H. Booth, an inmate of the local hospital, will soon be well enough to leave the institution. The appointment of Bishop Averillto the Auckland diocese has brought forth widespread comment as to his qualifications, showing that he is a wise, patient and experienced leader. A sad drowning fatality took place at Whareine on Sunday evening, the victim being Mr Arthur Harding, aged 64, a well known settler. The Harding family had been on a visit to a neighbour, and on their return the deceased endeavoured to get a rope on the wharf, when he fell out of the launch. He was said to be a fairly good swimmer, also also his son Maurice, who with Mrs Harding, did their best to effect a rescue but without avail. The body was brought to Helensville and on Tuesday .morning was sent on to Hawke's Bay district, where the Hardings' relatives live. Much sympathy is felt for Mrs Harding- who is naturally much distressed with the occurrence.

Ward has resolved to accept the post. The ardent spirits had hoped and announced that his decision would be declared this week, but, as against this there are certain elements of delay for which due allowance must be made.
