MAKARAU.
(From Our Own Correspondente.) The recent phenomenal hailstorm experienced at Henderson and other places, also fell in certain parts of Makarau. The hailstones lay in solid ice-like blocks, to the average depth of six inches, and in many places it was piled in heaps of a foot and more. It was seen from a..distance of three miles, from which it appeared like a heavy fall' of snow. It was twenty four hours or longer before the last of the " ice " melted. The dairy farmers are having a busy time with cows and calves, and a good number of cans of cream are now sent by train to *L the Helensville factory. The ■^£ great draw-back is the road, which, in places, is in a very bad , state indeed, and, unless it improve with finer weather, the driver of the GHorit cream cart is in for a rough time. The Hall Committee are getting , up a Social for Friday next, to which the young people are eagerly looking forward, as dances have been rare lately, on account of bad roads. 6-9-13.
