At a Maungaturoto banquet held last week somo important statements were made regarding the game in North Auckland. Mr A. E. Harding president of - the Northern Wairoa Union, spoke of the scant' praise accorded country players by the Auckland Union and the press, and voiced the opinion that the metropolitan governing body would yet be brought to see the folly of not doing far more to encourage country players. J. E. Elliott, manager of the Wairoa team, was loudly applauded for his advocacy of a North Auckland Euebv Association, under rhe control of which teams from every district could meet annually, and then the best team available could put forward a challenge for the Eanfurly Shield. He knew ol no better place for the formation ot a strong association, as, all the Kaipara unions could travel by water and grounds were available in handy situations in every district.
