A BROKEN PROMISE.
Another meeting of the Town Board has eventuated and the
expected report from the Engineer as to the finance required to complete the water and drainage works is still unavailable. The Chairman reported that the Engineer had promised faithfully to send the report along in time for last Saturday's meeting, and the Board expressed disappointment that the report was not to hand. We think the Board should have gone much further. The Engineer is being paid for his services, and if the requests of the Board are to be ignored there is something wrong somewhere. When it was so manifest nearly two months ago that more money would be required to carry out the works in hand, the Board should have been given an idea as to what further sum would be necessary, as enquiries could then be made as to where it could be procured. It appears to us that the works have been suspended for a considerable time, and for exactly how long [we are unable even to predict; it seems just a matter of suiting the pleasure of the Engineer.
