TOWN BOARD.

The fortnightly meeting of the Town Board took place on Saturday; present —Oomrs J. McLeod (chairman), A. Becroft, and J, A. Wilson. Correspondence . Among the correspondence dealt with was the following :— The application of E. Hoe, held ovei at last meeting, which was to purchase plots at the cemetery adjoining the family burial ground, was granted, Mr Becroft showing by tae plan the nature of the proposal. The Marine Dept. asked what the Board intended to do about crossing Awaroa creek with the drainage pipes. — Matter left in the hands of the Chairman to deal with. A Broken Promise. Speaking in reference to loan works the Chairman said he did not know what the Board were going to do in regard to this matter. The Engineer had promised him faithfully to have a report in for this meeting, but it had not come to hand. The Board could make no attempt to procure money until they knew what amount was re^ quired. He told the Engineer that the Board was waiting his estimate and was promised that it would be in for this meeting. The ratepayers were blaming the Board ; " and there you are," concluded the Chairman. Becroft said the EDgineer was at fault. The Chairman said the Engineer, had asked him not to put men on cleaning at the dam until he took the levels.

Both the Chairman and Mr Becroft considered this work should have been done last summer. On the Chairman's motion, seconded by Mr Becroft, the Clerk was instructed to write to the Engineer expressing disappointment that his report had not come to hand as promised" PIPITIWAI CULVERT. The Chairman reportedt hat he had thought it best to have the 12 tons of cement the Board had on hand used up as it was rapidly spoiling, so had arranged for the culvert at Pipitiwai cr°ek to be constructed, also the drainage culvert to be carried further along. Re had written to Mr Dye about having the hill reduced if the Road Board would pay half cost. He had also noticed that the road near the bridge waa only haJfa chain wide. Mr Becroft said a former Road Board had agreed to pay half cost of reducing the hill, The Clerk was instructed to write Mr D. Stewart asking for his fence to be put on the proper line near Pipitw wai creek, as the Board intended to have the road graded. Footpath and Metal Supplies. Mr Jas Stewart waited on the Board to ask that the footpath, be continued along Commercial road past the two new houses just erected opposite Dr Meinhold's residence. He also drew attention to the bad state of the Pipitiwai road. Ke footpath formation, matter re* ferred to the Works Committee. In regard to metal supplies the Clerk said that metal had been a long time on order. Clerk to write and point out thai the metal was urgently needed, GeNEKAL. It was decided to pay Wingate and Co. £340 for water pipes and retain the balance due with deposit so as to cover cost of any breakages. The Chairman reported in regard to Mr D. Stewart's complaint of his drains being blocked to the effect that the Foreman had temporarily stopped the outlets with several sacks of clay and had forgotten to remove them. The matter had now been put right. The question of wheel-tax was discussed, and it was decided to procure numbers and have them placed en licensed vehicles.
