At the Town Board meeting on Saturday, the Chairman (Mr Jas. McLeod), said that members would have seen by the newspapers that one of the oldest pioneer settlers had just passed away in Mr W. S. He was owner or part owner of the property now belonging to Buckiand and Sons at the Kaipara Heads, and was well known by everybody in the district, and was highly respected. He said the late Mr Young was I what you call a thorough man in every sense of the word, was not afraid to help those who were in need, and was much appreciated by all classes. Mr Becroft supported the Chairman's remarks, and seconded the Chairman's motion to send a letter of condolence to Mrs Young. MR. D. J. McEWAN. Also at the Town Board meeting the Chairman said he regretted to hear of the death of Mr D. J. McEwan, of Te Puke, who was an early settler on the Parkhurst Flat. The late Mr McEwan was well known throughout the district and much respected, and until the time he left was a member of the Waitemata County Council Mr Becroft also made similar remarks, and it was decided to send a letter of condolence to M rs McEwan. The late Mr McEwan lived at Parkhurst about fifteen years ago. He took a keen interest in local affairs, and leaves a wide circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. At Te Puke he i was largely interested in flaxmilling and farming, and was prominent in all public affairs.
