New Form Of Settlement.
During the" last session of Parliament tho Hon. W, F; Massey (Prime Minister and Minister for Lands) announced that he would make provision for the settlement of lands vwithin kauri gum districts in -areas-of 25 acres, the idea being to make, provision for settlers 'with very./ little capital or with none at all.; Regulations governing this, class of settlement have now been gazetted. The lands aro to be offered on occupation gyjh right-of-purchase tenure, and no' rent is to be demanded during_4he -first five years. It, is provided that no person shall be eligible .to, receive a license under the; regulalibns" if he is the holder of any land-Tin -"New Zealand exceeding in the wJiole loracres No woman is eligible to receive" a license under the regulations unless she is a widow or has children dependent on her. A married man or widower, who has children depending on him, may with the consent of the Land Boardapply for and hold under regulations! one additional allotment fox every two children under 16 years living with and dependent-upon hira, provided that the total area which may be acquired by any one person under these regulations shall not exceed -in tho aggregate \OO acres; ' : "'" *"iV Power to transfer holdmgTisstrictly limited. Except under exceptional circumstances no transfer ia to be granted by the Land^ Board within five years of the date of occupa* tion and no transfer is to be made within this period unless the board is satisfied that no profit is being made by the lu.-ensee.
