TOWN BAND.
A large number attended the meeting in the Library meeting room on Thursday, March 6th, for the purpose of considering the formation of a town Band for Helensville.
Mr Card was voted to the chair, .and explained that a number had expressed their willingness to assist the project if it were organised on a sound footing. He had asked the Town Board if the concern could be vested in that body and they had agreed to do what was in their power to assist, the Clerk had been instructed to write the Warkworth Town Board, as to how the band there was controlled by that local body, but so far no information had been received. The old Helensville band had fallen through in 1906, but Mr A. Becroft, the then secretary, states that nine or ten of the old instruments could be still located, in fairly good order, so that there would be something to start with. The trustees of the old band were agreeable to hand over to the new proposition. | Mr A. Becroft, stated he was a trustee with the late Mr Cameron, for the old band, and H. B. Becroft and J. Bradly were also appointed trustees. It was only a matter of form vesting the matter in the Board, but as it was to be a public concern, assisted by the town generally, it was only right. The Board no doubt would assist. Mr Masters thought that the town should be able to support a band, if it were properly controlled. A band-master would be necessary, if one could be found in the district so much the better, but if not they would have to get one to assure success. It was unanimously resolved, That a band be formed to be called/the Helensville Town Band to be vested in the Helensville Town Board. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr J. G. Coates M. P.; President, Chairman of Town Board (Mr J. McLeod); Vice - presidents, Dr. Meinhold, Meesrs E. S. Masters, A. Becroft, J. E. Page, J. A. Wilson, E. H. Cucksey, Jas. Hand, Jas. Stewart, John Mclntyre, Snr., T. Evans, R. Nicholls, A. J. Hill, H. W. Stringer, and A. Bishop; Committee, Messrs E. Screaton, L. L. Bailey, E. S. Masters, F. LeGrice, E. S. Cucksey, J. Bradly, and W. B. Card ; Secretary and Treasurer Mr H. B. Becroft. . / A number of suggestions to the committee by those present were noted and the meeting terminated.
The committee will meet on Friday 14th, for enrolement of playing members, when all intending to take part are requested to attend, so as the committee can arrange further details.
