Competition was steady throughout at values which were from 10s to 15s below our last sale (held on Friday 27.) Choice ox sold to Ll 7s, prime LI 4s to Ll 6s ; cow and heifers 19s to Ll 4s ; steers ranged in price from L 7 10s to Ll3 sa; cows and heifers L 3 10s to LBl7s9d. There was a largo yarding of fat and young calves, which sold readily. Choice suckeis L2 2s to L 3 3s, smalU erLl 10s to L2, light 18s to Ll Bs. Small and fresh dropped 3s to 16s (118 sold). _ Fat sheep came forward in record numbers. There was a firm demand, but taking the sale on the whole, prices were slightly easier. Extra heavy prime we tilers LJ to Ll Is 6d, heavy 17s 6d to 19s 6d, light to medium 16s to 17s 6d, unfinished 14s to Iss 6d, Best ewes 14 6d to 16s 6d, good 13s to 14s, others 9s to* I2s'6d (3,143 penned). The 808 lambs yarded met with a ready sale, freezing buyers operating freely. Speaking to a number of Canterbury farmers, Mr. J. B, Morrett said that all over the world poultry products were rising in prices. I'he export UaJe should be developed. British Columbia was asking for lialf-a million pounds' worth of eggs and poultry lor the table, and New Zealand should have a slice of this trade. From Sydney reports received on Friday, table chickens were, selling at 10s a pair by auction, geese 15s, turkeyt up to 60s. Mr. Merrett urged farmers to give poultry-raising for table their attention. There were plenty oi eggs in the country, and suburban and specialist breeders would help tc keep up the supply, but for table poultry it wav to the farmers they must look for supplies.
