CHRISTMAS EVE.
Again we have Christmas Eve upon us. All the young folks are wondering what they will receive in their stockings to-morrow morning, and at the same time giving parents broad hints of what they would like Santa Claus to bring them. This is a time for rejoicing, and a look round the shops of our town shows that all are well catered for, the heaps of goods displayed foretelling many happy smiles on Christmas morn.
Business people generally are already wearing a Christmas trade smile ; one informed us that there did not appear to be a great number of people moving about, but when comparing last weeks takings with the same week of last year there was a decided increase, especially in cash takings, this he puts down to the increase of population to the district during the past twelve month. This is good for our rising township, as in many parts the cry of tightness of cash is heard. Last year bad weather on Christmas Eve stopped the crowds from doing the late shopping, this year, unless a sudden change takes, there is real Christmas weather and the township should be packed with oM and young making their final purchases.
