MUSICAL SOCIETY

Tb.e Helensville Musical Society held their final meeting for the year last night, when instead of the usual weekly practice, a social was held, 24 members being present, Solos were rendered by Mrs Page, Misses Rimmer, Donovan and Little, and Mr Drower. Duets were sung by Mr and Mrs Page and Messrs Page and Harvey. Mr Screaton gave a selection on the Banjo. During an interval Mr Page gave a short account of the progress of the Society since its formation 2£ years ago, and with advantage of the occasion to present Mrs J. L. Stewart with a very handsome Ruby and Pearl Brooch sub~ scribed for by the Members. In a few well chosen words he referred to the loss the Society was sustaining through Mrs Stewart's departure from our midst, Mrs Stewart being one of the most enthusiastic and hard workers the Society had. The members joined in singing " For she's a jolly good Fellow." Mrs Stewart suitably responded saying how sorry she was to leave the Society, and every time she wore the brooch it would be a reminder of the happy time she had spent with the Society,
