Alfred Buckland & Sous., Sales. Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons, report:— At our weekly Westfield fat stock market on Wednesday, December 11, our supply of fat stock totalled 361 head. There was a falling off in the demand, and values receded from 10s to 15s a head. Choice ox sold to LI 6s, prime Ll 4s to Ll ss; cows and heifers 18s to Ll 4s ; steers ranged in price from L 7 10s to Ll3 5s ; cows and heifers, L4ssto L 9 7s 6d. There was no alteration in the price of fat and young calves. Heavy suckers L 2 15s to L 3 11s, choice medium suckers Ll 15s to L 2 12s, light Ll 5s to Ll 13s, small and fresh 10s to Ll 2s, weedy 3s to 7s. (81 sold) There was again a heavy yarding of good quality mutton, values for which were fully Is 6d per head below last week's figures. Extra heavy i prime wethers 18s 6d to Ll 0s 3d, medium to heavy 16s 6d to lbs, light and unfinished, 13s to 15s ; extra heavy ewes jss to 18s 6d, good 13s to 14s 6d : and others 9s to 12s 6d. Lambs penned in increased numbers, ana sold stedily throughout at from 15s to 18s 6d, good 13s to 14s 6d : and others, 9s to 12s 6d. light 11s to 13s, small and poor 7s 6d to 10s 6d,(891. sold). Veal calves came forward in good numbers, and sold at late rates. Heavy valors sold to L 4 15s. medium-weight L 2 10s to L 3, others 35s to L 2 2s, smaller 20s to 30s. Fresh dropped 4s to 15s. There was an extra large yarding of sheep, which sold at lower values. Best wethers from Is to 2s easier, ewes Is to Is 6d. Wethers, first quality, 17s 6d to 20s, others Hs 9d to 17s 3d. Hoggets 11s 6d to lGs 9d. Lambs in full supply and sold at late rates, freezing buyers operating freely. Best lambs sold at from 14s 9d to 17s 6d, others 10s (3d to 14s 6d, store do 6s 6d to 9s. Pigs were yarded in good numbers, and sold at late rates. Baconers L 2 7s, large porkprs 38s to L 2, porkers 20s to 355. No slips or weaners yarded. The fairly heavy stocks held by local merceants realise ing up to L 4 10s per ton on trucks at Auckland. Southern —In fair demand at late. Butter : has slightly firmed on last week's rates, but it is hard to say if prices will continue firm. Choice llUd, first grade 9^d to 13d, second grade , 9|d to 9-\<\, poorer qualities 9,1. Fungus : Finding ready saio at 4|d lb. The Hon. James Allen, interviewed before his departure for London, said the bad months of the fin uncial year were now over. Dee?mber was j usually the best revenue month of the year, and, with a fortunatf season, the j remaining four months will give a larger revenue than the corresponding period of last year. The Post Office Savings Bank funds were now in a much better position then they were for the past three or four months and if revenue prospects are realised, tho Government should be able to meet commitments for loans to local bodies without having recourse to the Londou market.
