TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary . fortnightly meeting of the above was held in the Board Chambers on Monday evening last. Present: Messrs Jas. McLeod ( chair** man), A. Becroft, J. A. Wilson, Jas. Hand. The minutes of the previous „ meeting were read and confirmed. CoiIItESPONDENCH. From Warkworth Town Board asking the Board for information re Clerk's salary, as the question of Clerk's salary for that Board was to be dealt with, Matter left with the Cleik to give necessary information,, From Hobson County Council asking the Board to forward amount due to that Council for Kaipara Licensing expenses. Clerk was authorised to paj cheque. From Mr F. Dye forwarding letter from Charitable Aid Board stating that the Committee decided that it could not see its way to recommend payment of Dr. Meinhold's account in Mrs Harm's case. The Chairman thought the matter should be followed up further, as the district paid a large share of rates. . Messrs Beeroft and Hand thought the Doctor's account in cases where people were unable to pay, should be met by the Charitable Aid Board. It was decided that Mr Dye be written to asking him to again bring the matter before the Board, pointing out that the Helensville Town Board were paying rates, and that the amount be paid out of such rates. From Mr Jackson, Engineer, enclosing rough tracing of proposed new bridge in reinforced concrete in place of the/present Swing Bridge ; pointing out that the bridge should be built for £2000. but until the design had been passed by the Public Works Department, he could not say exactly what the cost would be, He asked the Board's approval, so as the plan could be forwarded to the Public Works Department. Members thought the proposal was satisfactory, and approved of same. Accounts. ■ Accounts amounting to £8 6s 9d paid between meetings were passed, and an account of £ 1 2s 9d was passed for payment. Cembteby. Mr Becroft thought the Cemetery account at present in the rost Office Savings Bank was unsatisfactory, as it was not always convenient to go to the Post Office to draw small amounts. The Chairman said if a separate account was opened in the Bank it would cost 10s extra, besides they got a small [ percentage from the Post Office. If it would be more convenient in the Bank they could open an account there. It was ultimately decided that the account be transferred to the local Bank. TIME OP MEETING. The Chairman said that the time of meeting was very unsatisfactory, sevtral having to go without their dinner to attend at 6 o'clock. The gentleman lor whom the meeting was moved from Saturday afternoon to 6 p.m. on Monday evening, had not attended at that time since the alteration, He moved " That the time of meeting be moved back to Saturday afternoon at 2.30 p.m." Mr Wilson seconded.— Carried. It was decided that the nest meeting be held on Saturday, January 4th at 2,30 p-m. The Clerk (Mr Stringer) made application for leave of absence for 4 weeks, commencing the second week in January. He pointed out that arrangements could be made for filling his place for the time. It was resolved that the Clerk bo granted leave of absence,.ond that he have arrangements made and brought before tho Board at next meeting. It was decided to supply pipes to Mr Stewart for drain crossing Nelson Street,
Drainage, Letter from Railway Department informing tho Board that the Depart^ mont would allow the sewer to go along the railway line on the usual conditions. The offer was accepted. Letter from Advances to Local Bodies Department, calling attention to the New Zealand State-guarantees Amendment Act, 1912, and stating that owing to the Department." inability to raise money at the rate anticipaed when the ioaa was granted, it will be necessary to charge the Board a higher rate than 5^ per cent on the £10,000 loan. The Chairman stated that all local bodies wore receiving the same notice. Letter from Engineer of Waterworks, re tender for supply of pipes pointing out that Win gate and Go's tender be accepted. The Board confirmed the aoceptance of the tender. Aocounta paid between meetings, £247 4s lid, were paid, and £234 4s lOd was passed for payment, DOMAIN BOAED. Three applications wore rooeivod for relieving baih attondnnt. vb., Misses G. Wilkinson, X, F.urolj, and G. Aitkenhead. It was decided that Miss E, Farrell bo appointed Accounis paid between meetings, £18 16s, were passed, and accounts amounting to £42 7s 6d were- passed for payment. Mr Becrol't asl^c] f r move towols at the Baths, as there won; not enough for the busy season. The Chairman staled tGwels had already been placed on order. In reply to Mr Becroi't the Chairman stated that the water would be turned on to the lawns on Tuesday, and he did not think much damage had been done yet from the delay in getting the supply.
Some little discussion took place re the stability of the water tank erected to supply the lawns, but the matter was left to prove itself, it being considered by the majority, strong enough to carry the weight required.
