A tennis match, Maungaturoto v. Kakarau, was played on the Factory Paddock Courts on Saturday hst 14 th inst. In m>st of the matches the play was very fast, and some good exhibit tions were put up. The result of the daj7s play was in favour of Maunga* turoto by the substantial majority of six sets to throe. The following- is a detail of the result, the Maungaturoto names being placed first:— Singles H. Wilson v. Black well, 9- 3. H,. "Worthington v. Bailey, 3—3. A. Newitt v. T. Ryan, 9—B W. Grant v. C. Stewart, 9—5. L. Worthington v. Shannon, 9— 5. V Cullen v. McCullogh, 5—9 Doubles Wilson and Worthington v, Blackwell and Bailey, 5—9. Newitt and Grant v. Ryan and Stewart, 9—3. Worthington and Cullen v. Shannon and McCullough, 9—o.
The Maungaturoto Athletic Club are holding their annual sports on Friday Dec 27th. An excellent programme of running, . and military events is to be gone through. Several of the prizes have been increased from last year's programme, and given a fine day, it promises to be a huge success. A strong and a,ble committee are on the list and should carry it through successfully. -For the Cup, they are offering £10 with a first prize of £7, se3ond £2, and third £1. The quarter mile carries prizes of £3 for Ist, and £1 for 2nd. For the mile prices are £5 and 30s, Altogether a programme of twenty events are to be gone through.
