We hear that Mr Peter Becroft, brother of Mr A. Becroft, is in very bad health, causing some anxiety. The N.Z. Dairy Association paid suppliers last month £57,990, and increase of £15,940 over last year. The American Federation of Labor has refused to endorse the formation of a national labor party, preferring to continue on a non-political basis. The sale by auction of Mrs Gr. Sherriffs household furniture and effects takes place on Tuesday^ Dec. 10th. Mrs A. Becroft loft for Australia by Monday's boat, to be with her mothei, MrsJßallans, who is in failing health. Mr D. Sullivan, eldest son of Mr D. Sullivan, of Helensville, died in Auckland on Monday. His remains were brought to Helensville for interment yesterday. There were a good number of bowleis at tho Hot Springs green during last week. There is to be a committee meeting of the local club to arrange tournament games, and members intending to take part should get in as much practice as possible. At the annual examination for Standard VI. certificates of proficiency held on the 25th inst., Miss Eileen Russell and Master Royal Spmley, the only pupils from the Te Pua school gained their certificates.

Fishermen generally in this district are concerned in the fall in the price of iish from 3/(5 to 2/- per dozen. AYe do not notice that the.price in Auckland has come down in comparison. AYe think it is time our Kaipara fishermen tried freezing their own fish and shipping them to Australia, and not depending en the Auckland market so much.

Mr L. L. Bailey,-late of Auckland, notifies in another column that he has takeu over the saddlery and harness making business of the late Mr R. M. Cameron, and. hopes by strict attention to business together with good workmanship to merit a continuance of the liberal support accorded, his predecessor. As Mr Bailey has hud 21 years experience in the business in Auckland, with Mr K. EL Crudge, country customers can rely on getting the best articles procurable at practical city prices, and as a large stock is to be carried there should be no necessity to go further, anything not in stock will be made on. the premises to suit customers.

The associa. tion condemned the New Zealand Government for trying to force the men to work. Mrs Massey, wife of the Prime Minister, was entertained by two hundred and 'fifty members of the Women's Political Reform League, at Auckland on Friday, and presented with a handsome diamond necklace and pendant, as a token of the esteem in which she is held by • the ladies of the league. The vice-president pointed out that although the recipient herself was content to remain at home whilst her husband gathered political honours, all recognised in Mrs Massey ths Premier had a wife and helpmate whose influence and good counsel at home could be depended upon to .smooth away n.any of the difficulties and worries which are the lot of a public man. A man owed a great deal of his success in life to his wife, and in Mrs Massey the Prime Minister had one whose wifely qualities could be counted upon to clear away many a frown gathered in the stress and strain of office.
