KAUKAPAKAPA

On Friday the 22nd, "was held a very successful school concert, the proceeds to go towards purchasing tennis materials for the school chikb ren, The night was fine, and the performers were favoured by a bumper house, the proceeds being quite suffice ient for the object desired. The first part of the programme comprised songs, recitations, physical drill, etc., by the school children and friends, while the second part was the cantata, "Soot and the Fairies." The children carried out their parts in a highly creditable manner, and reflected the careful training of the teachers and of willing helpers, chief of whom were Mrs G. Dye and Miss M. Drinnan. The ladies of the district provided a light supper for the performers and all departed home well pleased with their outing. The annual examination of Std. VI pupils was held last week, and the Kaukapakapa children nobly upheld the traditions of the school. The school eommmittee has done a lot of work in the shape of improvements to the school grounds lately. Aided by a donation from the tennis club two courts have been prepared for the use of the children. Later on these will be tarred and sanded, and play will be possible throughout the year.
