MT. REX STATION.

At the monthly meeting of the Kaipara Chamber of Commerce held in Dargaville on Monday a letter was read from the Kaipara S.S. Company with reference to the suggestion that the days when the steamer is to leave Mt Rex should be notified in the timetable. It was stated that the company always tried to avoid going to Mt Rex if possible, and wind and weather conditions had to be considered. They thought that the best plan would be to advise the stationmaster at Helensville the nip-ht before and he coxild advise the stationmaster at Auckland.—lt was resolved that the secretary write to the Traffic Manager at Auckland asking him to arrange that notifications be sent from Helensville on the previous evening when the steamer is to leave Mt Rex, and that in such case notices be posted up at ticket offices on Hue. The General Manager of Railways wrote with reference to the handling of passengers' luggage at Mt Rex, I and said that the truck at present in use was suitable for the purposes, It was pointed out in the letter that the wharf. had only been used by railway passengers at night three times in .twelve months, The Minister was of opinion that the present facilities were ample for the requirements of the traffic. —A member remarked that he was quite satisfied that if the Minister made an inspection he would see that an improvement was necessary.—lt was resolved on the moton of Mr Harding, that the chairman of the Hol<?nsville Town Board be written to and asked 1 to lay before the Prime Minister, when passing through Helensville the necessity for an improvement being made at Mt Rex in regard to the transport of luggage. On the motion .of Mr Dargaville, seconded by Mr Jones, it was resolved that in view of the fact that passengeis by the .steamer missed the. midday train on several occasions by a few minutes and then waste several hours in Helensville waiting for the next one. Tt was also contended that in the case of the midday train not being an express, any little time lost in keeping it back could be picked up.—N,A.T.
