TOWN BOARD.

The ordinary fortnighti#: meet- s ing of the above Board was held jin the Chambers on Monday evening, commencing at 6p.m. Present: Messrs Jas. McLeod j (chairman), J. A. Wilson, Jas. c Hand, Jas. Stewart, and A. Be- a croft. i Minutes of the previous meet- r ing was read and confirmed. Deputation. {. Mr Hook waited the Board in j| connection with his application to build a shop in front of his boarding house, near the bridge. He asked the Board to settle the * dispute about the allotment. The Chairman explained that if the pegs were put in the Board would know what to do. Mr Hook stated that he knew l where the pegs ought to be, and € he was quite certain of them. He produced deeds and plans of section, dated 1884. Mr Stewart produced a letter dedicating bridge to the public in 1875. Mr Wilson : The letter dedicating the bridge did not bear on the matter as the deeds were drawn later. Mr Stewart contended that Mr Hook had not sufficient frontage to comply with the By-laws. He required 50 ft. frontage and he had not got it. The application showed only 36 ft. Mr Hook contended that if an angle had been made in the road he would have had more frontage. He did not intend to use all his ground on the road ; there was 18 inches that the Board could have if it was any use to them. The Chairman stated that they did not want to put him on the road, or stop him from building, but they must abide by the Bylaws. If he could make a combined building he could build. Mr Stewart moved that permission be not granted on the plan submitted. After members had considered the by-laws as to frontage required Mr Becroft moved that on the plans, approval be granted to build one shop. The motion was not seconded. Mr Stewart thought that a solicitor's opinion should be got on the matter, as it was likely to come up from time to time. The Chairman said that it was his opinion that the Board could not stop Mr Hook from building, he would move " Tha^the Board have no objection to the buildings being erected so long as the Town Board by-laws were complied with," seconded by M r Hand and carried, with Mr Stewart dissenting. Mr Stewart stated that the Board could grant it, but there was nothing to stop him serving an injunction to stop it. General. Letter was read from the Kaipara Chamber of Commerce, asking the Board to kindly assist the Chamber in their request for improved conditions for transmitting passengers luggage at Mt. Rex. It was decided that if a deputation was formed, the Board would assist the Chamber. Letter from the Waitemata County Council asking what action the Board intended to take regarding the rebuilding of the Helensville Swing Bridge, and whether they would bear half the cost with the County Council of its reinstatement. Mr Becroft asked if they could not get plans to see what sort of structure the W.C.C. contemplated putting up, and the cost of same. The Chairman :If the Board { were prepared to stand to their share, and notified the County to that effect, then plans would be submitted. In answer to Mr Stewart, the Chairman said that £2000 was eaimarked by the Mairatahi Riding for the rebuilding of the bridge the Board to pay interest on half. Mr Stewart: Plans and rough estimates should be submitted. Mr Wilson : The Council only wanted -to know if the Board were agreeable to go on with the building of the bridge. Plans and specifications would be submitted afterwards. The Council asked if the Board favoured a new bridge. Mr Becroft: The Board should go their half. The Chairman said the Council wanted a new bridge, they had control of the bridge now and they wanted to know what position the Board would take up. On the motion of Mr Becroft, seconded by the Chairman, it was carried with one dissention, "That the Board have no objection to new bridge being erected by the Council, but that the Council be asked to submit the Engineer's proposals in writing. Mr Wilson : That will mean a loan. The Chairman: The Board could lift the £1000 secured by the Mairatahi Riding as their share of the cost without any trouble. Mr J. Morris, Junr., wrote asking for crossing into his property, which had been promised some 10 months previous, stating he would like the matter attended to.

—Left for the Roads Committee to attend to. Members agreed that a lot of similar work would be done, but funds would not allow. Mr F. Dye wrote stating that he would place the matter of Dr. Meinliold's claim for attendance on Mrs Harm before the Charitable Aid Board'at its next meeting, and do what he could in the matter. Mr Becroft asked what arrangements had been made in connection with drainage work going along railway line, and if it could be managed to get the material off-loaded along the line where most convenient. It was decided that the Chairman interview the General Manager of Railways on the matter. Accounts. Accounts amounting to £10/17/6 paid between meetings were passed, and £11/9/9 were passed for payment.

DRAINAGE BOARD. The Clerk stated he had written to Mr Hook and Mrs Stewart re drainage going through their property, but so far had received no reply. ACCOUNTS Accounts amounting to £118 16/8 paid between meetings were passed, and accounts amounting to £214/5/11 were passed for payment. DOMAIN BOAED ! Accounts amounting to £18 14s Od paid between meeting were passed, and accounts amminting to £5 7s 4d were passed for payment, The Chairman stated that the Minister of Tourist and Health Resorts would be in Auckland on Tuesday and Wednesday, and he thought they shonld decide what they were going to do in connection with handing over the Springs Domain, Most people he had had conversation with, were of opinion that the Board should hand it over to the Government. He was quite sure it would be an advantage to the dishict. Messrs Wilson and Hand expressed the same opinion Mr Becroft thought a deputation should wait on the Minister and get some definite information as to development if the Springs wore handed over to the Government, and then lay tho matter before tl;c ratepayers. Mr Stewart did not think the Boai'd could hand the Domain to the Government. The only thing they rould do was to tlnow up the control, The Springs were vested in the King as a Domain, lie considered that the matter should be referred to the people for consid oral ion,

After further discussion it was decided that as many members of the Board as could attend, form a deputation to wait on the Minister in Auckland on Wednesday and lay the matter beforo him.
