TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the above was held in the Board Chambers on Monday evening last. Present: Messrs Jas. McLeod (chairman), A. Becroft, J. A k "Wilson, Jas, Hand. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, CONDOLENCE. A vote of condolence was passed on the death of Mr R. M. Cameron, who had been a member of the Board, and that the Board respectfully tender'to Mrs Cameron and relatives the assurance of its sincere sympathy with them in their sad bereavement. Members expressed their feelings in the loss of a good townsman, who had also dona good work for the district as a member of the Board. GENERAL, Mr Hook's application for building on the frontage of his section m Garfield Road, near the Awaroa Bridge, was, after consideration, again deferred till next meeting. The Clerk was instructed to write the City Council for a copy of their building by-laws The Chairman thought it would be necessary for .Mr Hook to have a fresh survey. It was decided that Mr Hook be asked to get a survey made and boundary pegs put it. Mr Becroft thought it was putting the owner to a lot of trouble as he expected the old boundary peg would be there. The matter of rates-due by Mr Lambert was again discussed, MiLambert contending that he should only berated for lessee's value, and i not with the lessors also. Mr Wilson : A man is liable to pay rates on a lease from the Crown directly he becomes occupier. The Chairman: Mr Lambert should have objected at the Assessment Court the Board had to collect as put on the Valuation Roll, and could not accept half. Mr Lambert protested, and stated that he could not pay it, he would let it go to Court. It vras eventually resolved, That the Clerk be instructed to notify Mr Lambert that he must pay his rates and arreas ; this notice to be final. Letter read from Mr Stan well stating that he had no means of getting to and from his property in Fifth Avenue, and asking the Board to form and metal footpath. Matter to be attended to. Letter from the Woodhill Tennis Club asking the Board to S6ll earthernware pipes laying on the road between Woodhill and Wlaareuapa to the Club. The Chairman stated the applicashould have gone to the Waitemata County Council, as the pipes belonged to that body. Letter . from. Dr Meinhold, re fee from Mrs Harm, for attendance. Ackthe Board to forward the matter the patient not being in a position to pay. The Clerk stated that Mrs Barm had met with an accident while employed at the Technical School, resulting in a broken arm. Mr Becroft stated that the matter bad been referred by tho School Committee to Mr George George, Director, of Technical Education, who had said he would do what ho coujd. Members agreed that medical men should be assisted in these cases, as they often hnd to give professional attendance to peoplo who were unablo to pay. It was decided that Dr. Meinhold's account bo sent to Mr F. Dye, the district member on the Charitable Aid Board, asking him to look into the matter. The Secretary was instructed to make application to the Kailway Department for £15 promised towards footpath alongside Railway cottages. Mr Becroft drew attention to the Cemetery bylaws which had been referred from meeting to meeting for re vision. He could not see how bylaws drawn up 24 years ago could bo used the present day. He rrado this statement in reference to his account which was already passed, amounting to 11s 6d, while the by-laws had the charge at ss. It was agreed that the revising of the by-laws be taken in hand as soon, as possible. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £14 lla 3d paid between meetings were passed, and accounts amounting to £19 3s 5d were passed for payment. The Chairman drew attention to an account for telephoning and telegraph messages, out»o:f>pocket expeu~ ses due the late Chairman (Mr Stewart) which extended over from October 1910. He thought a resolution should be passed that no account oi: tho same nature of such long standing should be passed in future. He would move, That no account for out-of-pocket expenses from the Chairman should extend over a quarter. The motion was seconded by Mr Becroft, and carried. The Chairman said that out of the £19 odd passed for payment £14 was for old accounts He asked the Clerk if there were any more old accounts. The Clerk said that he did not know of any; soveral had teen overlooked after having been pabsed. DiiAiiYAGE Board. An account from Mr A. Bishop wasleft over for next meeting for settlement, allowing for sale of tickets, etc., to be credited to the account on the Board's behalf. A letter was received from Mr Ziman, solicitor, Hand re Board re land. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mi Allen, the Board's arbi> trator asking him if an umpire had been appointed in the case, and if so to supply the Board with the name.
