Pootaad-Mouth Disease * ' By the last mail Mr Alexander ZJrabb, M, B, 0.V.-S., the London Veterinary officer of the Department, forwarded a copy of the departmental 2ommittee set up to inquire into footahd mouth disease. The principal recommendations of the committee are as follows : Prohibition of importation of calves with skins on ; sterilization of imported hides ; scientific committee in India to study the disease; and suggestions as to appointment of veterinary officers under the Disease of Animals Act. Sheep penned in scarcely average numbers. There was steady demand, with values on the upward tendency, Extra heavy wethers Ll 7s to Ll 8s 9d, heavy Ll-4s Qd to Ll 6s Bd, medium to heavy Ll 0s 9d to Ll 4s, unfinished 18s Gd to Ll ; best ewes Ll to L[ Is 9d, others 15s to 19s (1351 sold): spring lambs Igs to Ll 4s Gd, small 12s to 15s (27 sold). There was an extra large entry of pigs, all classes being represented. Choice baconers and porkers maintained late rates ; other description^ were slightly easier.
